Some of the reasons or excuses we receive as to why students cannot continue with their training and wish to quit aikido:
1. Not enough time to train
2. Too busy with family matters
3. Can't get away from work in time for training
4. Have a minor injury/illness.
5. Other activities getting in the way.
6. Too much study/homework.
7. Too far from home.
8. Training not hard enough
9. Teachers are demanding
10. Takes too long to make progress.
11. Moved to another state or country.
Aside from a couple of legimate reasons above the rest are just excuses. The bottom line is that when you called or came down to train you had a reason for doing that. That reason may have been to get fit, gain more confidence, meet new friends or learn skills that could save your life. Whatever those reasons were somehow they have been forgotten or stored away in the ressesses of you mind and the desire to continue is no longer there. To regain your enthusiasm for training again you must access the core reasons why you first began aikido and use that as a motivator to continue. Also whenever you feel you are losing the desire for training it is a wise move to talk to your instructors. By talking with them you will find that they have gone through the same lack of motivation that you are going through now. However, they found a way to get over that hump or lack of desire and to continue on to reach their original goals. Please remember that we are here to guide you on your journey. We want you to train and to improve you aikido not just your physical skills, but to improve the quality of your life.
